Digital Microscopes The Latest in Medical Technology
Have you heard of the latest medical technology? Do you want to know what it is? Do you want to know how it is helping our doctors and medical technologists? How mankind is going to benefit from this technology?
Digital Microscopes have been around for quite some time now with the first of its kind having been manufactured in Japan through the ingenuity of a lens company now known as Hirox Company Limited. Now, like any other technological breakthrough, someone or some company out there is bound to come up with a better version of this type of microscope, which eventually happened. This isn’t a bad thing really as upgraded versions had either better or more features that are helping medical technologists see microscopic specimens at a better pace and angle.
Digital Microscopes work in the same manner as optical microscopes only that in magnifying the object being scrutinized the optical type of microscope uses the eyepiece magnification through a multiplication of the lens magnification while magnification in Digital Microscopes can be seen in the number of times the image is magnified in a monitor. How large or how small the object is will thus depend on the size of the monitor being used, as the latter kind of microscope is no longer using an eyepiece to view or magnify a specimen. What it does have is a Charge-Coupled Camera (CCD) and optics, which are the means through which an object can be seen in a monitor.

Digital Microscopes are advanced in the sense that images coming from these microscopes are already of better quality compared with those that optical microscopes project. In addition, Digital Microscopes are already capable with providing the users with 2D images and measurements. As to viewing images and measuring specimens in 3D this can be achieved through image stacking.
This is very good news then to laboratory technicians who want to scrutinize specimens, measure these specimens or capture these specimens in a photo, as what they will be getting are better-looking photos and more accurate measurements.
This is helpful news too to doctors and other medical professionals who study objects through microscopes and who regularly share information on these ventures to members of the medical community as they can easily project onto large monitors these microscopic specimens for the appreciation of their respective audiences.
Finally, Digital Microscopes are heaven-sent to the common people because we become more confident and trusting of laboratory test results knowing that the test was conducted using a Digital Microscope, thus, should be more accurate and error-free.
Digital Microscopes are changing the landscape of medical technology but the use of this type of microscope in laboratories and clinics should not be made as an excuse to have a relaxed and over-confident team of laboratory technicians, as with over -confidence comes human error.
