Exciting changes are on the
horizon for the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) -- formerly
the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR). The foremost medical
society devoted to the advancement of computer applications and information
technology in medical imaging through education and research, the Society
strives to reflect a new direction by expanding its scientific and educational
focus on imaging informatics beyond the field of radiology.
In addition to changing its
name from SCAR to SIIM, the Annual Meeting Program Committee is planning
enhancements to the organization’s meeting. In recent years, the scope of the
meeting and the attendance at the meeting has expanded dramatically in parallel
with the rapid expansion of imaging informatics. The SIIM meeting is the leading
educational forum with an emphasis on image and information interpretation and
management in the 21st century.
SIIM 2007 takes place in
Providence, R.I., June 7-10.
SIIM also takes the lead in
establishing a certification program for imaging informatics professionals. SIIM
is recognized as the leader and an unbiased, expert source of information in the
field of imaging informatics. Certification is the logical next step for SIIM
toward the further education and professionalization of this industry. The first
exam will be available in September 2007; look for an expanded, imaging
informatics-focused curriculum at the SIIM 2007 Annual Meeting.
