The Society for Computer
Applications in Radiology (SCAR) officially awarded scholarships to two
residents today to pay for their travel and attendance at the organization’s
2006 Annual Meeting here in Austin, Texas. The presentations were made this
morning at the 3rd SCAR Media Breakfast, co-sponsored by SCAR and
Siemens Display Technologies.
Two dozen applicants wrote
essays on “The Next Killer App: What is the Biggest Development on the Horizon
for Radiology Informatics?” and were judged by a panel of SCAR experts.
The
two recipients are Richard J. Bruce, MD, resident in the Department of
Radiology, University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics; and Donald E. Decker,
MD, resident in the Department of Radiology, MSU/GRMERC (Michigan State
University/Grand Rapids Medical Education & Research Center).
“We
are pleased to have achieved such a high level of interest and participation in
the first year that we offered the scholarship,” said Barton (“Char”)
Branstetter, MD, chair of the SCAR Education Committee. “Twenty-four
submissions were reviewed by the Education Committee, and we had a very
difficult time selecting the top two. It is our sincere hope that applicants who
were not chosen for the scholarship will still plan to join us in Austin for the
Annual Meeting. The membership of SCAR is enthusiastic about resident
participation, and all residents will find a welcoming environment at the
meeting.”
