The eXtensible Imaging Platform (XIP) is a set of visual ‘drag and drop’ programming tools and associated libraries for the rapid development of imaging and visualization applications. The tools include modules tailored for medical imaging, many of which are hardware accelerated (OpenGL). They also provide a friendlier environment for utilizing popular toolkits such as ITK and VTK. Through the XIP tools, developers can create applications that utilize the coming Application Hosting interfaces from DICOM WG-23. The XIP tools also provide a reference implementation of a DICOM WG-23 Hosting System for running those applications.

The Learning Lab offers a hands-on opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the latest technologies. These small classroom-style learning labs are limited to 24 people at one time, and will be offered several times throughout the annual meeting. You must sign up in advance on the SIIM 2008 registration form. Bring your own laptop and plug in!
