Description:

  This one-day symposium will address the knowledge gap experienced by many PACS administrators by exploring the blend of competencies required for imaging informatics administration. This course is designed to assist individuals who have interest in or plan to take the ABII Imaging Informatics Professional (IIP) certification test. It focuses on the 10 domains of the IIP Certification Test Content Outline. The faculty will conduct a panel session and a test question review at the conclusion of the symposium.

Learning Objectives:

  At the conclusion of this symposium, the participant will be able to:
  • Explain the range of roles required for the Imaging Informatics Professional (IIP) and the supporting tasks and knowledge requirements to ensure successful PACS implementation and operation;
  • Describe the complexity of imaging informatics administration in the medical imaging environment across vendor systems;
  • Identify areas where more education and understanding is needed for those interested in pursuing IIP certification;
  • Explore the blend of essential competencies required for imaging informatics administration as described in the 10 domains of the IIP certification test content outline;
  • Differentiate between the ABII certification efforts and SIIM IIP education goals.

Target Audience:

  Individuals who are interested in pursuing professional certification and those who want to learn more about the wide range of competencies and skills required for this career.

The symposium presentations will direct participants to the following resources to assist in preparation for taking the certification test:

  • Recommended sessions within the IIP educational track at the annual meeting relevant to the test content outline;
  • Publications dealing with the topic;
  • Applicable websites regarding the topic that will provide greater detail for study.
  • CIIP Study Groups at SIIM 2008

ABII volunteers and staff are not involved in the development of any educational preparatory program. ABII and its staff are solely responsible for the policies and administration of the IIP certification program, including application deadline and eligibility requirements.
